ECOWAS Defence Chiefs meet in Abuja

The Chiefs of Defence Staff from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) are currently in a crucial meeting in Abuja.

The meeting which brings together top military brass from across the region to deliberate important security issues is chaired by Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa.

In attendance are key Nigerian officials, including the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, as well as legislative leaders and representatives from the National Security Adviser’s office.

Also, the meeting has drawn Chiefs of Defence Staff from ECOWAS countries, with the exception of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger.

However, the gathering comes at a critical time for regional security, with various challenges threatening stability in the regional bloc.

The discussions are expected to focus on collaborative strategies to address these concerns and strengthen defence cooperation among ECOWAS member states.
