BREAKING: Abuja National Mosque Appoints First Igbo Imam

The management of the Abuja National Mosque has appointed Professor Iliyasu Usman as the first-ever Igbo Muslim Imam of the mosque.

The appointment of Usman has elicited celebration in Muslim community, particularly among the South East Muslim Organisation of Nigeria (SEMON)

SEMON has hailed the appointment as a reflection of his dedication to Islamic scholarship and leadership.

In a statement, SEMON described the new Imam’s role as both a personal achievement and a divine responsibility to lead in worship and service to Allah.

It also commended the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) for its inclusiveness under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.

The organisation expressed hope that Usman’s appointment would uplift the Igbo Muslim community and foster unity within Nigeria’s broader Muslim population.

Meanwhile, muslims from across the country are expected to gather at the Abuja National Mosque today to witness this groundbreaking event.

Prof. Usman will join two other active Imams, Prof. Ibrahim Makari and Prof. Muhammad Kabir, in leading the Juma’ah and daily prayers on a rotational basis.
