Senate leader, Ahmed Lawan on Tuesday denied being attacked by angry youth in his district on Friday as reported in the media.
The Senate Leader who came in through point of order on the floor of the Senate explained that he never travelled to his state last weekend.
That was because he has to attend a wedding in Daura, Katsina state alongside Senator Sani Yerima, Ali Wakili and a few others.
He said,” President, distinguished colleagues, I have a copy of Thisday Newspapers with a report that I went to my Senatorial district on Friday and was booed by angry youth.”
He condemned the story that he was blocked from entering his constituency by the angry constituents saying it was meant to ridicule him.
According to him, the story was not only injurious to him as a person, but his people who he said voted for him en masse have also been portrayed in bad light as very rude humans.
He concluded that the only thing that will pacify him and his people is for the newspapers concerned to publish a retraction immediately.
In his remarks, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu who presided over the plenary noted in his comments that it is becoming a common occurrence among a section of the media to malign politicians for no justifiable reason.
He however referred the matter to Committee on Public Petitions, Ethics and Privileges with Senate Committee on Media to report back in two weeks.
