Power supply has been disrupted in several areas, including the Presidential Villa, Maitama, Wuse, Jabi, Lifecamp, Asokoro, Utako, and Mabushi. This unfortunate situation stems from the vandalism of a crucial 132kV transmission line. Moreover, the culprits took away underground cables that were essential for supplying electricity to the Central Area transmission substation located in Katampe.

In addition, the vandals didn’t stop there; they also stole a considerable 40-metre 1x500mm XLPE conductor. Consequently, areas now facing power outages include Maitama, Wuse, Jabi, Life Camp, Asokoro, Utako, Mabushi, and parts of the Presidential Villa. Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs for the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), shared this information in a recent statement.

Mbah pointed out that this incident has severely impacted eight distribution feeders, leading to disruptions in over 60 percent of Abuja’s power supply. Furthermore, she indicated that the vandalism likely took place near the Menillum Park area of Abuja. The perpetrators, as mentioned, made off with significant infrastructure, affecting two vital 132kV transmission lines.

However, she reassured the public that the TCN has already sent a team of engineers to promptly restore power to the affected regions. Mbah urged residents in these areas to be patient as the repair efforts for the damaged cables are currently underway.
