Four dead, 14 injured in a crash along Umuahia-Enugu expressway

A fatal crash claimed four lives and injured 14 others along the Umuahia-Enugu Expressway on Friday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident via Abia Sector Commander Mrs. Ngozi Ezeoma’s statement.

At approximately 2:01 p.m., the collision occurred near Ohiya mechanical area.

Preliminary findings indicate a burst tire and speeding caused the Ebonyi Transport Corporation’s white Toyota Hiace bus to somersault multiple times.

The ill-fated vehicle was carrying 18 passengers, comprising 11 men and 7 women.

Tragically, one female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The remaining 17 passengers were swiftly transported to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Umuahia for urgent medical attention.

Tragically, two male passengers and a woman succumbed to injuries despite rescue efforts, escalating fatalities to four.

Transitioning to official response, Mrs. Ezeoma conveyed heartfelt condolences to bereaved families and sympathies to crash survivors.

She reinforced the FRSC’s road safety commitment, urging motorists to obey traffic laws and prevent tragedies through proactive measures. Additionally, the agency prioritized prevention, emphasizing regular vehicle maintenance, cautious driving, and sustained awareness campaigns to curb accidents.
