The Borno State Police Command has recovered 61 stolen mobile phones worth ₦35 million and arrested two suspects, marking a major breakthrough in combating crime.

This success highlights their commitment to reducing criminal activities across the state.

Acting on credible intelligence, the Command’s Crack Squad arrested Ba’isa Yerima, 25, and Lawan Yusuf, 26, in Maiduguri’s Polo area on March 15, 2025.

Officers discovered the stolen phones during the arrest, prompting further investigation.

Authorities revealed that the suspects specialized in buying stolen devices, hacking security passwords, and reselling them illegally.

Seven phones have already been traced to theft victims through tracking efforts, confirming their stolen status.

Both suspects confessed to their roles, and police are expanding inquiries to identify accomplices and recover more evidence.

Efforts to return the remaining phones to owners continue, with the public urged to visit the Crack Squad for identification.

Victims can contact emergency numbers 08068075581 and 08023473293 to report losses and reclaim their property.

Commissioner of Police Yusufu Mohammed Lawal praised the squad’s efficiency and reaffirmed dedication to public safety.

He encouraged residents to stay alert and report suspicious activities immediately to prevent further crimes.

This operation underscores the value of community collaboration in tackling crime and strengthening security measures.

By fostering trust between law enforcement and citizens, Borno State aims to create a safer environment for all.

The arrests signal progress in disrupting criminal networks while demonstrating the police’s proactive approach to addressing theft.

Meanwhile, investigators continue analyzing data from recovered devices to trace additional stolen items.

Residents have welcomed the recovery as a relief, particularly amid rising concerns about phone theft.

Authorities emphasize that public cooperation remains vital for sustaining these victories. For updates, residents should monitor the Command’s official channels, ensuring access to accurate information.

The suspects’ modus operandi involved exploiting lax security features on phones before reselling them.

Such crimes often fuel broader illegal markets, necessitating swift police intervention.

Consequently, the Command has intensified patrols and surveillance in high-risk areas to deter repeat offenses.

As investigations proceed, authorities remain focused on upholding justice and deterring future illegal activities in the region.

This case serves as a reminder for citizens to secure their devices and report incidents promptly.

Together, community vigilance and police action can further diminish criminal operations across Borno State.

Maiduguri residents expressed gratitude for the recovery, citing the emotional and financial toll of phone theft.

The Command assures continued transparency in updating victims about reclaiming their devices.

Such efforts reinforce the importance of coordinated strategies between law enforcement and the public.

Ultimately, this achievement reflects the Command’s adaptability in addressing evolving criminal tactics.

By prioritizing intelligence-led operations, they aim to stay ahead of threats.

Citizens are advised to document device details, simplifying recovery if theft occurs.

Through sustained collaboration, Borno State moves closer to lasting security and accountability.
