Unknown gunmen kill police officers

Some unidentified gunmen have, on Friday, August 9, 2024, reportedly killed a policeman at a check point in Nnewi, Anambra State, Nigeria, while others fled for safety.

According to eyewitnesses, before leaving the premises the daring gunmen reportedly shouted at the dead officers:

“We warned you not to leave your stations and stand on the road collecting money, but you won’t listen!”

The eyewitnesses reported that, at least, one officer died at the spot, leaving others with injuries.

The rest, meanwhile, fled for their lives, abandoning their colleagues.

An audio report from one of the eyewitnesses reads:

“This is breaking news! The attached video is an incident that just happened at Omata Road at Nnewi here.

“Unknown gunmen came here and killed two policemen.

“They said that they have warned them to desist from blocking roads and collecting monies from innocent commuters and passers-by.

“They moved to the next checkpoint to cause more mayhem.

“Before they got there, however, information has gone ahead of them and the police officers fled.”
