The Presidency of the federal Republic of Nigeria has lambasted Premiumtimes over what it termed “false and misleading” report on Mr Ibrahim Magu.
Premiumtimes had, on Wednesday, quoted the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami as saying that “the endorsement by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo of the continuous stay of Ibrahim Magu as EFCC [Economic and Financial Crimes Commission] chairman was not a collective decision”.
The report further said that Mr. Malami, while addressing journalists after a meeting of the Federal Executive Council [FEC], said “the Federal Executive Council never discussed the continued stay and possible re-nomination of Ibrahim Magu as chairman of the anti-graft agency”.
The media outfit will later tweet on its Twitter handle: “Magu: Osinbajo is on his own, Attorney General Malami says”.
Responding, the Presidency, taking to its Twitter handle said: “This is false and misleading, @PremiumTimesng. The Attorney General did not at any time or in any way say this.”
“The Attorney-General’s point is that decisions on Presidential nominations are matters for the Presidency & not the Fed Executive Council,” it added.
Elombah.com had, on Tuesday, reported that Senate resolved to impeach Acting President Osinbajo if he fails to remove acting Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu.
Senate also decided to put on hold the confirmation of nominees from Presidency until Acting Chairman of anti-graft agency is removed.
