PDP National Convention: Rivers Govt to sue Police, DSS

Wike has declared that the State Government will sue the Police and DSS for sealing up the Sharks Stadium, initial  venue of PDP National Convention

▪says any attempt to use the security agencies to rig elections  will be  resisted

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that the State Government will sue the Police and the Department of State Services, DSS, for sealing up the Sharks Stadium, initial  venue of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Convention of August 17, 2016.

The governor also stated that the people of the state allowed the security agencies take over state facilities  because  of  the  visitors from other states .

Speaking at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Friday while inaugurating the Peace and Security Committee of the State, Governor Wike said that the Rivers State Government will seek judicial interpretation to determine  if the Federal Government was right to take laws into their hands.

The  governor stated that the security agencies   should not think that the illegal invasion of Sharks Stadium and other government property was a dress rehearsal for the rigging of the forthcoming rerun elections in the State.

He said: “I hope what you did that day  is not what you plan to do during the rerun elections.  

“We allowed it because we had visitors from outside.  Nobody  will allow  you  rig elections in this state”.

The governor charged members of the Peace and Security Committee  to work  towards promoting security of lives and property within the ambit of the law.

The membership of the Peace and Security Committee  inaugurated by the governor include : 

1. The Commander of the NNS Pathfinder,  

2. the representative of the Nigerian Army, 

3. the Rivers State Police Commissioner, 

4. the Director DSS,

7. Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps, 

8. Comptroller of Immigration,  

9. Commander of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and,

10. a representative of the State Traditional Council. 

Speaking further,  Governor Wike berated the prison authorities  for playing  politics with the production  of  a murder suspect in court for prosecution.

Responding on behalf of the Peace and Security Committee, Navy Commodore Obi  Egbuchulam assured that the security  agencies will work  towards promoting peace in the state for businesses  to  thrive.
