Super Cup: PSG eye fifth trophy against Tottenham

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is set to kick off their new season in style, chasing their fifth trophy of 2025 as they face Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Super Cup tonight in Udine, Italy.

After a historic treble-winning campaign—capturing Ligue 1, the French Cup, and their first-ever Champions League title—PSG added the Trophée des Champions in January.

Moreover, their dream of a perfect seven-trophy year slipped away with a 3-0 loss to Chelsea in the Club World Cup final.

A win against Europa League champions Spurs would not only secure another trophy but keep alive their ambition of matching Barcelona (2009) and Bayern Munich (2020) as six-trophy winners in a calendar year.

Under Luis Enrique, PSG has become a powerhouse of youth, pace, and tactical brilliance.

Their 5-0 demolition of Inter Milan in the Champions League final—featuring the youngest starting XI in the competition’s history (average age: 25)—was a testament to their dominance.

Rising stars like Désiré Doué and João Neves lead a squad bursting with potential, while veterans like captain Marquinhos provide experience.

Ousmane Dembélé, transformed into a lethal number nine, has been the team’s standout, ending last season with 35 goals and 16 assists, earning Champions League Player of the Season honors.

Tottenham, on the other hand, sees this final as a chance to solidify their resurgence under new manager Thomas Frank. Fresh off their first-ever European trophy—a Europa League triumph over Manchester United—Spurs are brimming with confidence despite injuries and the departure of Son Heung-min.

Frank’s side will look to disrupt PSG’s rhythm with high pressing and quick transitions. Though the odds favor PSG, Tottenham thrives as underdogs and will aim to deliver another upset.

For PSG, it’s a chance to bounce back from their Club World Cup disappointment and take one step closer to an elite milestone.

However, for Spurs, it’s an opportunity to announce their arrival as serious European contenders. Either way, the Stadio Friuli is set for a thrilling clash of styles and ambitions.
