The Osun State Police Command has begun investigations into the mysterious death of a young woman, identified as Bidemi Omole, who died in the home of her boyfriend, Yinka, in Esa-Oke, Osun State.
According to residents, the incident occurred late Friday night at Yinka’s residence in Oke Esa area of the town.
Bidemi, who was said to have arrived at the house earlier in the evening, reportedly developed sudden health complications and died shortly after.
Eyewitnesses told PUNCH Metro that the development caused panic in the community as neighbours rushed to the scene.
One resident, Taye, said they heard cries for help before people trooped to Yinka’s house.
“Before I arrived, many people were already at the scene. Security operatives were also there, but the crowd was overwhelming because it happened at night.
The lady was said to be heading to a vigil, as she usually attended Friday vigils, but she died not long after getting to her boyfriend’s place,” the witness recounted.
Following the incident, Yinka was arrested by the police after neighbours raised suspicion over the sudden death.
Confirming the development on Sunday, the spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, said the case was reported on Saturday.
Ojelabi explained that, according to Yinka’s statement, the deceased began vomiting shortly after arriving at his house.
She was being rushed to the hospital when she died on the way.
“The incident happened on Friday. The deceased, Bidemi Omole, visited her boyfriend, Yinka, at Esa-Oke.
Not long after her arrival, she suddenly fell ill and started vomiting.
She was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, she died before getting there.
The boyfriend has been arrested and is in custody,” Ojelabi said.
The police PRO added that an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death, stressing that the matter is being treated with utmost seriousness.
Meanwhile, the death has unsettled residents of Esa-Oke, with many calling for transparency in the police investigation to rule out foul play.
