ADC to select 2027 presidential candidate through consensus

(DDM) – The African Democratic Congress has announced it will adopt consensus as the method of choosing its 2027 presidential flagbearer.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the party leadership explained the decision was aimed at strengthening unity and preventing internal divisions.

Hon. Muhammad MJG, who serves as ADC Media Frontier, disclosed that consultations had been ongoing for months with grassroots leaders and national stakeholders.

He noted that consensus remains the most practical approach to consolidating the party’s structures and positioning the ADC as a credible alternative for Nigerians.

According to Hon. Muhammad, the consensus arrangement would save the party from rancorous primaries that have historically weakened opposition groups in Nigeria.

He stressed that the party intends to channel its resources towards expansion across the states rather than internal disputes.

Party executives emphasized that Nigerians would ultimately benefit from a system that encourages inclusivity while reflecting the wishes of citizens demanding good governance.

The African Democratic Congress further assured the public that whoever emerges as the consensus candidate would be one who embodies the aspirations of ordinary Nigerians.

Leaders of the party maintained that the 2027 elections present an opportunity for the ADC to prove that Nigerians deserve a transparent and people-oriented political structure.

They insisted that the consensus approach demonstrates political maturity and a commitment to building trust with the electorate.

Background checks show that the ADC has previously contested presidential elections but failed to make major electoral breakthroughs due to limited visibility.

Analysts say this new approach might help the party avoid factional crises that have crippled similar opposition platforms in the past.

They argue that unity, if sustained, could increase the ADC’s bargaining power and help it compete against Nigeria’s dominant political parties.

Grassroots consultations reportedly played a central role in shaping the decision, as local leaders demanded a less divisive process ahead of 2027.

According to reports, stakeholders advised that consensus would help align different interests and ensure that state chapters work with the national leadership harmoniously.

The ADC has called on Nigerians, especially youths and professionals, to support what it described as a people-driven movement for real change.

Party officials declared that their mission is to present Nigerians with a genuine alternative beyond the ruling and main opposition parties.

Observers note that Nigeria’s political landscape has often been dominated by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The ADC’s strategy, they believe, is an attempt to break that two-party dominance by rallying citizens around a single candidate early enough.

The 2027 elections, though still years away, are already shaping into a contest where consensus-building and strategic alliances could determine outcomes.

The ADC maintains that its priority is to ensure that internal harmony translates into a national platform for credible and accountable leadership.
