Gunman Kills Three Police Officers in US

A deadly shooting in Pennsylvania has left three police officers dead and two others critically injured.

The attack occurred on Wednesday, September 17, in Codorus Township, York County, about 130 miles southwest of Philadelphia.

According to State Police Commissioner Christopher Paris, five officers came under fire while responding to a domestic violence case.

“I can confirm that there were five law enforcement officers who were shot today, three fatally,” Paris told reporters.

He said the two surviving officers were in critical but stable condition.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, was killed at the scene by police gunfire.

“I can confirm that the shooter is dead,” Paris said, adding that an investigation was underway but there was no ongoing threat to the public.

The officers had gone to the property as part of a domestic violence investigation when the gunman suddenly opened fire.

The attack has drawn nationwide attention and renewed concern about rising gun violence in the United States.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro described the incident as heartbreaking.

“This is an absolutely tragic and devastating day for York County and for the entire Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,” he said in a statement.

Officials have not released further details, citing the ongoing investigation.

Investigators are expected to determine how the shooter obtained his weapon and what may have triggered the violent response.

The tragedy highlights the growing risks faced by law enforcement officers in the U.S., where ambush-style attacks against police have been on the rise.
