Bandits launched another deadly assault on Lema community in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State on Friday morning, killing one farmer and leaving his brother with life-threatening injuries.

The victims, both brothers, were working on their farmland when the attackers struck.

According to Nupeko TV, the farmland was only a short distance from the main settlement.

Witnesses confirmed that one of the farmers died on the spot, while the survivor was rushed for emergency medical treatment.

The incident has thrown the Lafiagi Emirate and wider Kwara North into fresh mourning, amid fears of worsening insecurity in the region.

This tragedy follows a series of recent attacks across Kwara North. On Tuesday, armed bandits raided Motokun and Agboro communities in Patigi Local Government Area.

The Kwara State Police Command, in a statement signed by spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed that six residents of Motokun were abducted, while six others sustained gunshot wounds.

Sadly, one female victim later died at the hospital.

The police also revealed that the attackers targeted a private company in Agboro, where they killed a police officer and vandalised property.

Friday’s attack in Lema adds to growing concerns that rural farming communities are increasingly unsafe.

Farmers, who already struggle with food insecurity and rising costs, now face the added danger of armed violence, even within close proximity to their homes.

Authorities and local security groups have begun responding to the latest attack, though fear and tension remain high across Edu and Patigi LGAs. Residents are calling for urgent government intervention to stem the surge in banditry and rural violence that threatens lives and livelihoods in Kwara State.
