The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that one of its official vehicles was stolen from the Force Headquarters in Abuja, sparking a nationwide search.
According to an internal signal issued by the Commissioner of Police, Katsina Command, and relayed from the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), the missing vehicle is a Toyota Buffalo Land Cruiser with chassis number JTELU71JX0B027126 and registration number NPF 5594 D.
The report stated that the vehicle, which was attached to the Department of Operations at Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, went missing on July 28, 2025, after being taken from the official parking lot.
Police authorities have classified the case as serious and confirmed that investigations are underway.
A directive has been sent to all area commands, divisional police officers, and formations nationwide to be on the lookout for the stolen SUV.
The official police message read in part:
“Case is under investigation. Grateful disseminate to formations, area commands, and divisions for possible recovery. Inform mine for necessary action.”
Security operatives across the country have been urged to treat the matter as “very important” and report any leads that could assist in the recovery of the vehicle.
This incident has raised serious security concerns, as the theft occurred inside the heavily guarded premises of the nation’s top police command.
Questions are now being asked about lapses in surveillance and internal security at the Force Headquarters.
Authorities have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to recover the vehicle and identify those behind the theft.
