There was a dramatic incident at an Area Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Thursday when a woman, Mulikat Yusuf, collapsed after her husband, Ishaq Abdulganiyu, firmly insisted on ending their marriage.
During the hearing, Abdulganiyu told the presiding judge, Toyin Aluko, that he was no longer interested in the union, citing persistent disagreements.
In an emotional plea, Yusuf begged the court to intervene, stating that she was unwilling to accept the divorce.
She explained that after raising six children with her husband, she had nowhere else to turn and desperately wanted the marriage to work. Despite her appeals, Abdulganiyu maintained his stance that the marriage was over.
Shortly after the proceedings, Yusuf left the courtroom in tears but collapsed just outside, causing panic among onlookers.
Sympathisers and court officials quickly rushed to her aid, reviving her by pouring water on her face.
Judge Aluko later advised Yusuf to make further efforts to reconcile with her husband and resolve their differences amicably.
The case was adjourned until December 10, 2025, to allow time for reconciliation or to proceed with the divorce hearing.
