The Osun State Government has officially appointed global Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as the chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund, a new initiative aimed at transforming the state’s sports landscape.
The announcement was made by the state’s Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Kola Adewusi, who confirmed the appointment on Tuesday.
He said the move reflects the government’s vision under Governor Ademola Adeleke to modernize sports infrastructure and promote youth development across Osun.
Adewusi revealed that Davido’s appointment is part of a broader plan to raise sustainable funding for sports, attract private investment, and develop future talents.
He noted that Davido’s global influence and connections in the entertainment and business world would be instrumental in driving support from both local and international philanthropists.
According to Adewusi, the Osun Sports Trust Fund will serve as a financial backbone for sports growth in the state, enabling renovation, training, and the hosting of major sporting events.
He explained, “Davido has been appointed to chair the Sports Trust Fund, and he did not hesitate in accepting the appointment.
His intervention would attract funds that would impact Osun sports positively.”
The government also reaffirmed its commitment to completing the renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium, which it said would meet Olympic standards once finished.
Adewusi assured residents that the project is progressing at an advanced stage and would soon be completed.
He added that the administration is also working on establishing the Osun State Sports Commission, which will act as a central body for sports administration, policy formulation, and long-term planning.
“The creation of the commission will ensure efficiency and accountability in sports management. It will serve as a foundation for Osun to reclaim its pride as a home of talent and sporting excellence,” Adewusi stated.
Davido’s appointment has sparked widespread excitement across Osun, with many describing it as a strategic step that blends youth appeal, innovation, and public-private partnership in governance.
With the Sports Trust Fund now under Davido’s leadership, expectations are high that Osun will soon witness a revival of sporting activities and infrastructure capable of hosting both national and international competitions.
