Stop Bandit Attacks In Kano, Barau Urges Security Agencies

(DDM) The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau I. Jibrin, has urged security agencies to intensify operations in Kano State following fresh bandit attacks in Tsanyawa Local Government Area and Shanono Local Government Area.

Barau’s appeal came after an alleged attack on Saturday night in Yankamaye village, Tsanyawa LGA, where a woman was reportedly killed and three persons kidnapped by suspected bandits.

In a statement issued by his media adviser, Ismail Mudashir, the senator condemned the violence and called the incursions “unacceptable,” stressing that the safety of lives and properties in affected communities is “paramount.”

Barau urged security operatives to “double their efforts,” emphasising that bandits, some believed to be fleeing from intensified military operations in neighbouring states, should not be allowed to find safe havens in Kano.

He demanded the immediate rescue of the kidnapped victims and called for a decisive crackdown on criminal elements terrorising rural communities.

Background data suggests the bandit problem in Kano is not new. On November 1, 2025, troops of the Joint Task Force Operation MESA under the 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army repelled a major attempted incursion by bandits in Shanono LGA after a heavy gun battle.

The operation resulted in 19 bandits being neutralised, though casualties among two soldiers and one local vigilante were recorded.

Despite such military efforts, residents continue to report recurrent attacks, abductions and cattle rustling, a situation that has intensified calls for stronger security presence and community protection.

Barau’s plea underscores growing frustration among lawmakers and citizens over persistent insecurity in border and rural communities, and adds pressure on security agencies to deliver swift and lasting solutions.
