A Canada-based Nigerian woman, Ezinne Nwanorue, has drawn widespread criticism on social media after publicly celebrating the death of her mother-in-law while her ongoing marital dispute with her husband, Franklin Nwanorue, continues to unfold online.
The family first attracted public attention days earlier after a video surfaced showing Franklin taking a public fidelity oath before travelling to Canada. In the now-viral clip, he pledged to remain faithful to his wife.
“I confess and I promise that if I come to Canada and cheat on you, let me die in the name of Jesus,” he declared.
However, Ezinne later alleged that her husband had an affair after relocating to Canada, despite making the public vow.
The controversy escalated after Ezinne reacted to the death of her mother-in-law, Comfort Chika Nwanorue, in a social media post that many users described as disturbing.
In the post, she referred to the deceased as a “wicked witch” and wrote that she should “rest in pieces,” while claiming other members of the family would soon meet the same fate.
Ezinne also alleged that her late mother-in-law and some relatives had worked against her and attempted to derail her future.
“These people have dealt with me in this life. They found out about my destiny and did everything within their power to bring me down, but I thank God for helping me discover who I am and for preserving my destiny,” she wrote.
Describing herself as a prophetess, she said she was speaking from her spiritual calling and urged people she described as witches and evil-doers to repent.
The post quickly generated intense reactions online, with social media users sharply divided. While some condemned her remarks as disrespectful and inappropriate, others viewed them through the lens of the couple’s widely publicised marital conflict and the allegations she has made against her husband’s family.
Neither Franklin Nwanorue nor members of his family had publicly responded to the latest comments as of the time of this report.
