The House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating the controversy surrounding the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) has directed the Inspector-General of Police to produce Adeniyi Adeyemi for questioning on Wednesday.

The directive was issued during the committee’s sitting on Monday after Assistant Inspector-General of Police Bashir Abdullahi appeared before lawmakers to provide updates on the ongoing investigation.

Committee chairman Yusuf Gagdi said Adeyemi’s appearance had become necessary following findings made during the probe.

He directed the police to present him before the panel by 12 noon on Wednesday.

“The committee hereby resolves that the Inspector-General of Police should kindly present Mr Adeniyi Adeyemi on Wednesday by 12 noon,” Gagdi said.

He noted that the investigation had uncovered allegations involving forged and altered documents, as well as the names of several individuals and government agencies.

“So many patriotic individuals have been mentioned in different ways during this investigation.

Agencies have also been named, while documents are alleged to have been mutilated and forged. It is therefore necessary for Mr Adeyemi to appear before this committee,” he added.

The committee is investigating the controversial ₦1.3 billion allocation made to the PFIPC in the 2026 budget.

As part of the inquiry, lawmakers have already questioned the heads of several ministries, departments and agencies, including the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the Budget Office and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.

The controversy has also drawn in the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Adeyemi, who is accused of presenting himself as the council’s director-general, claimed that his appointment letter was signed by Gbajabiamila.

The Chief of Staff has denied the allegation, insisting the document was forged and had earlier petitioned security agencies over the matter.

The Presidency has also maintained that the appointment letter bearing Gbajabiamila’s signature is fake.

Adeyemi was arrested by operatives of the Police Intelligence Response Team in Osun State on July 14 as investigations into the alleged fraud continue.
