US President Donald Trump “remains in excellent overall health,” according to his White House physician.
Captain Sean Barbabella, a US Navy emergency physician, wrote in a memo dated Monday that advanced imaging of Trump’s heart and abdomen came back “perfectly normal.”
The 79-year-old president had undergone an MRI scan the previous day.
Trump himself admitted he did not know which part of his body was scanned.
The memo followed concerns from Democrats and the public over Trump’s age and fitness for office during his second term.
Barbabella explained that the October physical was comprehensive and age-appropriate.
He said the examination included a preventive assessment of Trump’s cardiovascular system and abdominal organs.
According to the memo, there was no evidence of arterial narrowing or abnormalities in major vessels. The physician concluded that Trump’s heart and cardiovascular system are in “excellent health.”
The abdominal imaging also revealed normal function with no acute or chronic concerns. Barbabella noted that the scans were standard for an “executive physical” for someone of Trump’s age.
He stressed the preventive purpose: to identify issues early, confirm overall health, and ensure long-term vitality.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt read the memo during a press briefing on Monday.
She described the release as part of the administration’s commitment to transparency.
Medical experts, however, noted that MRI scans are not typically standard for preventive care. Dr. Jeffrey Linder of Northwestern University said the memo did not clarify whether an MRI or CT scan was performed.
Routine imaging is generally discouraged for asymptomatic patients because risks may outweigh benefits.
Despite this, some physicians, such as Dr. Carla Perissinotto from UCSF, pointed out that certain patients opt for additional scans outside standard guidelines. Executive physicals often include extra tests for busy leaders.
Observers have noted visible signs such as swollen ankles and bruising on Trump’s right hand. In July, the White House confirmed he has chronic venous insufficiency, a vein condition that can cause leg swelling.
Still, Barbabella’s memo indicated no significant health issues were detected.
Trump has previously stated that his MRI scan at Walter Reed was “perfect.”
The recent report reinforces that he is maintaining his health and remains fit for presidential duties
