The Cross River State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has removed its chairman, Alphonsus Ogar Eba, following a landslide vote of no confidence by the State Executive Committee (SEC).
Thirty out of 32 SEC members endorsed Eba’s impeachment, citing months of alleged financial mismanagement, authoritarian leadership, and the prolonged shutdown of the party secretariat.
Deputy Chairman Ntufam Ekum Ekok Ojogu has taken over as Acting Chairman, pending approval from the APC National Secretariat.
Party leaders said the move aims to curb the escalating crisis within the state chapter.
Chief Kelvin Njong, Boki APC Chairman and spokesperson for the 18 chapter chairmen, noted that the decision followed extensive consultations and petitions to the national leadership.
In his inaugural speech, Ojogu pledged to reopen party structures, reconcile aggrieved members, and boost transparency.
“Let’s set aside grievances and rebuild. All entitlements will be addressed. My doors are open 24/7—it’s time to move forward,” he said.
Ojogu also praised grassroots volunteers and promised to work with Governor Bassey Edet Otu to advance the “People First” agenda.
The SEC and chapter chairmen have begun a closed-door meeting to map out restructuring plans and submit a report to the national secretariat.
This leadership change signals a major push to restore discipline and prepare the party for upcoming elections.
