The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has invited Ndigbo (Igbo people) in Nigeria and abroad to spend Christmas in the South-East, assuring them of the region’s safety.
In a statement, IPOB spokesman Emma Powerful described the South-East as Nigeria’s “most tranquil” zone, crediting the efforts of IPOB, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), and local residents for improving security despite “sponsored instability” in recent years.
Powerful urged holiday travellers to ignore negative narratives about IPOB and ESN, emphasizing that the groups work discreetly to keep the region safe.
He dismissed a viral video claiming kidnappings on the Owerri-Aba Expressway as “old” and “false,” and warned that ESN has no official social media channels.
“The absence of continuous killings and abductions in the South-East is proof that there are ‘Lions’ guarding the land,” he said, accusing the Federal Government and some Igbo politicians of failing to undermine IPOB and ESN’s efforts.
The proscribed group encouraged Ndigbo to return home for Christmas, invest in the region, and not be swayed by insecurity claims
