Tension flared in Ekpoma, Edo State, as angry youths reportedly launched attacks on Fulani settlements following repeated cases of kidnapping in the area, which they blamed on what they described as the inaction of Governor Monday Okpebholo.
The unrest broke out on Saturday, January 10, when groups of youths poured into the streets, vandalising properties said to belong to Fulani residents. Videos circulating widely on social media show the youths storming a goat market, killing several goats and carting them away. In separate footage, the protesters were also seen pulling down a billboard bearing the image of Governor Okpebholo, in an apparent expression of their anger and frustration.

The incidents have sparked widespread concern as authorities are yet to officially respond to the violence captured in the videos.
