Iran Fires Sejjil Missile As War With US Escalates

Share this:

(DDM) – Iran has reportedly deployed its powerful Sejjil ballistic missile for the first time since the outbreak of its ongoing war with the United States and Israel, marking a significant escalation in the conflict.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) understands that the missile launch occurred as the war entered its 16th day, highlighting the intensifying military confrontation across the Middle East.

The Sejjil missile is considered one of Iran’s most advanced long-range weapons and is capable of striking distant targets within minutes.

Military analysts say the deployment signals Tehran’s readiness to expand its missile operations as the conflict deepens.

The Sejjil-2 missile is a two-stage, solid-fuel medium-range ballistic missile with an estimated range of about 2,000 kilometres.

It is capable of carrying a payload weighing roughly 700 kilograms, making it one of the most formidable weapons in Iran’s missile arsenal.

Defence researchers say the missile measures approximately 18 metres in length and has a diameter of about 1.25 metres.

Reports also indicate that the weapon weighs nearly 23,600 kilograms.

One major advantage of the Sejjil system is its solid-fuel propulsion design.

Unlike older liquid-fuel missiles that require lengthy preparation before launch, solid-fuel missiles can be fired more quickly.

This capability allows Iran to respond rapidly during military confrontations or surprise attacks.

The Sejjil missile programme reportedly began gaining global attention in 2008 when Iran conducted its first test launch.

During that early test, the missile reportedly travelled about 800 kilometres.

A second test was conducted in May 2009 to evaluate improvements in its guidance and navigation systems.

Subsequent tests were carried out to refine its performance, with one later test reportedly covering about 1,900 kilometres into the Indian Ocean.

Military experts say these tests helped establish the Sejjil as one of Iran’s most strategic long-range missile systems.

The conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel reportedly began on February 28 after coordinated strikes were launched against Iranian targets.

Since then, tensions have continued to escalate across the region with missile exchanges and attacks on military positions.

The situation intensified further after the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, during the conflict.

Following the incident, Iran reportedly increased its military operations targeting Israeli territory and U.S. military bases located across several Gulf countries.

The prolonged fighting has triggered fears of a broader regional war that could draw in additional international actors.

Global energy markets have also felt the impact of the crisis.

Reports indicate that disruptions to shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz have raised concerns about global oil supplies.

Several countries have begun exploring alternative energy routes as the strategic waterway faces growing security risks.

Casualty figures from the conflict continue to rise, with reports suggesting that more than 2,000 people have been killed since the fighting began.

Meanwhile, speculation recently circulated online claiming that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had been killed in an Iranian strike.

However, the Israeli leader dismissed the claim by releasing a video on social media showing him calmly drinking coffee, appearing unharmed.

Security analysts say the introduction of advanced missile systems like the Sejjil underscores the seriousness of the conflict and the potential for further escalation.

They warn that continued hostilities could reshape geopolitical alliances and security arrangements across the Middle East.
