Trump’s Signature Set to Appear on US Currency, Ending 165-Year Tradition

United States paper currency will soon carry President Donald Trump’s signature, marking a major break from a long-standing tradition, the Treasury Department has announced.

Starting this summer, newly printed dollar bills will feature Trump’s signature the first time a sitting U.S. president’s name will appear on the nation’s currency.

The change is part of plans to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary.

In another historic shift, the redesign will remove the signature of the U.S. treasurer, ending a practice that has been in place since 1861 when federal paper money was first introduced.

The first batch of $100 notes bearing Trump’s signature, alongside that of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, is expected to be printed in June.

The new bills could take a few weeks before they begin circulating through banks.

For now, older notes with the signatures of previous officials including former Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and former Treasurer Lynn Malerba will continue to be produced and used.

The move is the latest in a series of efforts by Trump and his allies to put his name on government projects, buildings, and even commemorative items.

Recently, a federal arts panel approved a design for a gold coin featuring Trump’s image.

Officials say the overall look of U.S. currency will remain the same, aside from the signature change.trump

However, the decision also marks a significant departure from tradition, drawing attention to the growing personalization of national symbols.
