Nationwide March Erupts as Group Pressures ADC to Hand Obi Ticket

(DDM) — A fresh wave of political momentum swept across Nigeria on Saturday as supporters under the Village Boys Movement (VBM) staged a coordinated nationwide march demanding that African Democratic Congress hand its 2027 presidential ticket to Peter Obi.

The demonstration, branded as a “2 Million Man March and ADC Registration Drive,” took place simultaneously across multiple states including Abia, Adamawa, Anambra, Ebonyi, Plateau, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Kogi, and Edo, signaling what organizers described as a growing grassroots political awakening.

The scale and coordination of the march have sparked conversations within political circles, with analysts interpreting it as an early show of strength by pro-Obi groups seeking to shape the 2027 electoral landscape long before formal campaigns begin.

In a statement released after the exercise, the Village Headmaster of the movement, Tochukwu Ezeoke, said the march was not merely symbolic but a strategic mobilisation effort aimed at converting popular support into structured political participation.

He noted that beyond the street demonstrations, the movement actively registered Nigerians into the ADC, positioning the party as a potential vehicle for what supporters describe as a “new political order.”

VBM emphasized that the phased nature of the mobilisation was intentional, designed to sustain national momentum and deepen grassroots engagement in the weeks ahead. According to the group, the exercise marks the beginning of a broader, long-term strategy to build a formidable political base across all regions of the country.

The movement argued that Nigeria is witnessing a surge in citizen-driven political consciousness, fueled by dissatisfaction with existing governance structures and a growing demand for credible leadership. It insisted that the time has come for political parties to align with the will of the people or risk losing relevance.

Referencing ongoing political developments, the group pointed to discussions within the Peoples Democratic Party, All Progressives Congress, and Labour Party, as well as positions taken by the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum, to underscore increasing calls for a Southern presidency in 2027.

VBM maintained that granting Obi the ADC ticket would not only reflect public sentiment but also position the party as a credible alternative capable of challenging dominant political forces.

The group further declared that its mission goes beyond endorsements, stressing its commitment to mobilising millions of Nigerians across villages, towns, and urban centers to drive what it described as a decisive political shift.

Observers say the development adds a new layer to Nigeria’s evolving political dynamics, as grassroots movements begin to assert influence in shaping party decisions and candidate selection processes ahead of 2027.

With the march drawing attention nationwide, many now see it as an early signal that the battle for Nigeria’s next presidency may be driven not just by political elites, but by organised citizen movements determined to redefine the country’s democratic future.
