UN Warns Trump Over Iran Strike Threats as Tuesday Deadline Nears

The United Nations has warned that President Donald Trump could be in breach of international law if he follows through on threats to strike civilian infrastructure in Iran.

The warning comes as Trump’s Tuesday 8 p.m. deadline approaches, raising tensions in the ongoing conflict.

DDM reported that the U.S. president had earlier threatened to destroy Iran’s power plants and “blow up everything,” while issuing a fresh ultimatum without detailed conditions.

According to the UN spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is alarmed by the rhetoric, particularly threats targeting infrastructure such as bridges and energy facilities.

He cautioned that even if such sites have military relevance, the risk of civilian harm could make any attack unlawful under international law.

Guterres has urged both the United States and Iran to respect international law, avoid targeting civilian infrastructure and ensure the protection of civilians, while also maintaining freedom of navigation in key waterways.

The latest tensions are tied to repeated deadlines issued by Trump since March, aimed at forcing Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil route.

Diplomatic efforts are ongoing, with countries including Pakistan, Egypt and Turkey pushing for a 45-day ceasefire to prevent further escalation.

However, Iran has rejected a temporary truce, insisting instead on a permanent end to the war. Fighting has continued, with reports of Iranian strikes across Israel and parts of the Gulf, alongside Israeli attacks on key Iranian petrochemical facilities.

Iran has also warned that any strike on its civilian infrastructure would trigger retaliatory attacks on energy facilities across the region, heightening fears of a broader economic and energy crisis.
