Apple Inc. is preparing for a major leadership change.
After 15 years at the helm, Tim Cook will step down as CEO later this year and move into a new role as executive chairman.
Taking over from him on September 1 is John Ternus, the company’s longtime head of hardware engineering.
He’s spent about 25 years at Apple, deeply involved in building many of the company’s flagship products.
In recent years, he’s been leading hardware development, putting him right at the center of Apple’s core business.
Cook leaves behind a remarkable legacy. When he took over, Apple was already a tech giant but under his leadership, it expanded far beyond the iPhone into areas like wearables, streaming, and financial services, growing into a $4 trillion company.
This transition feels less like a shake-up and more like a carefully planned handoff.
Ternus has long been seen as the natural successor, and now he’ll be the one steering Apple into its next chapter.
