President Bola Tinubu has removed Wale Edun from his position as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, along with Umar Dangiwa, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
The decision was announced in a memo issued by George Akume.
According to the directive, Edun is to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who will now take over the finance ministry. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State for Finance.
For the housing ministry, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as minister-designate, while Dangiwa is expected to hand over to the minister of state in the interim.
All transitions are to be completed by the close of work on April 23, 2026.
Explaining the move, Akume said the reshuffle is aimed at improving coordination within the government and delivering stronger results for Nigerians, in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He added that the president acted within his constitutional powers and thanked the outgoing ministers for their service, wishing them well in their next steps.
Tinubu also signaled that further changes within the cabinet could follow, as efforts to “reinvigorate” governance continue.
