The government of France has advised its citizens in Mali to leave the country as soon as possible, pointing to a sharp deterioration in security following recent attacks.
In an updated travel advisory issued Wednesday, French authorities described the situation as “extremely volatile,” warning that the risk level has risen significantly in recent days.
The advisory comes after a wave of weekend attacks involving jihadist groups and Tuareg separatist fighters, which have further destabilized parts of the country.
France’s foreign ministry said travel to Mali remains strongly discouraged under any circumstances, urging those already in the country to make immediate plans to depart.
“French nationals are advised to arrange temporary departure as soon as possible using available commercial flights,” the ministry said.
The warning reflects growing concern in Paris over the safety of its citizens, as violence continues to spread in regions where armed groups remain active.
Mali has faced persistent insecurity for years, with insurgent activity and separatist tensions complicating efforts to restore stability.
The latest developments suggest that conditions on the ground remain unpredictable, with little sign of immediate improvement.
