2027: El-Rufai Son Endorses Obi-Kwankwaso Presidential Ticket

Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, has thrown his weight behind a potential presidential alliance between Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a post shared on X on Wednesday, Bashir signalled support for what he described as an “O.K” ticket  widely interpreted as a combination of Obi and Kwankwaso.

Although he did not mention their names directly, initials clearly point to the two opposition figures, both now linked to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Bashir suggested that such an alliance could help stabilise Nigeria’s political landscape, arguing that power should remain in the South until 2031 before rotating back to the North.

“Just in case there’s any ambiguity, let me state clearly I personally support an O.K presidential ticket,” he wrote.

“That alliance… will go a long way in salvaging the country from its current quagmire.”

He added that allowing a southern candidate to complete an eight-year cycle would create a clearer path for northern aspirants in the next political phase.

The idea of an Obi–Kwankwaso ticket has been gaining traction among supporters, particularly online, as opposition figures explore possible alliances ahead of 2027.

Both men contested the 2023 presidential election on different platforms Obi under the Labour Party and Kwankwaso under the New Nigeria Peoples Party  finishing third and fourth respectively.

Their potential alignment under the ADC is increasingly being viewed as part of broader efforts to consolidate opposition forces against the ruling party.

While Bashir El-Rufai’s comments do not represent an official political position, they reflect growing momentum behind coalition politics as parties and key figures begin early calculations for 2027.
