CALABAR, CROSS RIVER — Three executives of the University of Cross River State Students’ Union Government have died following a fatal auto crash that has left several others critically injured, throwing the university community into mourning.

The accident occurred on May 1, 2026, at Odukpani, on the outskirts of Calabar, where the victims were reportedly involved in a devastating road incident that resulted in multiple casualties.

Among those confirmed dead is the Students’ Union Government Director of Sports, Comrade Solomon Nya, alongside two other union officials whose identities have not been officially disclosed at the time of reporting.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the crash was severe, with several occupants of the vehicle sustaining serious injuries that required immediate emergency response and evacuation to nearby medical facilities.

The Students’ Union Government President was reportedly among those injured and is currently receiving treatment at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, where he remains unconscious according to sources familiar with the situation.

The incident has sparked widespread concern within the university community, with students and staff reacting to the sudden loss of key union leaders and the scale of injuries recorded.
