The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress in Anambra State, Chris Nwosu, has stepped down from the party just weeks after emerging as its state leader, citing Peter Obi’s departure from the ADC as the reason for his decision.
Nwosu, who was elected during the party’s state congress in Awka on April 11, announced his resignation in a letter dated May 2 and addressed to the ADC chairman of Ozubulu Ward V in Ekwusigo Local Government Area.
In the letter, he said Obi’s exit from the party played a major role in his decision to leave, adding that he wanted to support the former Labour Party presidential candidate’s political vision for Nigeria.
“I write to formally resign my membership of the African Democratic Congress with immediate effect,” the letter read in part.
He explained that Obi’s departure from the party, along with his personal commitment to what he described as the dream of building a “new and working Nigeria,” influenced his next political move.
Nwosu also thanked the party leadership and members for the opportunity to serve, despite his brief stay as chairman.
His resignation comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, following Obi’s reported exit from the ADC and the emergence of new opposition alliances.
The ADC had only recently concluded its Anambra congress, where new executives, including Nwosu, were elected by consensus and sworn into office immediately.
