We’re United, APC Governors Deny Division Within Party Leadership

ABUJA, NIGERIA — Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress have dismissed reports of internal division within the party, insisting that the ruling party remains united ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The position was made known after a meeting involving 18 APC governors, where the leaders reportedly passed a vote of confidence on the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodinma.

The governors described recent speculation about a possible leadership change within the forum as false and misleading.

According to party sources, the meeting focused on strengthening internal cohesion, governance coordination, and preparations for future political engagements.

The governors reaffirmed their commitment to working together in support of the party’s leadership and national development agenda.

They also pledged continued support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the administration’s economic and governance reforms.

Political observers say the public show of unity appears aimed at calming growing speculation over internal disagreements and emerging political alignments ahead of the next election cycle.

In recent months, reports of power struggles and strategic positioning within the APC have intensified as politicians begin consultations for 2027.

However, APC governors insisted that the party remains stable and focused despite differing political interests among members.

The meeting reportedly addressed issues concerning party discipline, governance performance, and strategies for maintaining APC dominance across states currently under its control.

Analysts note that governors remain influential power brokers within Nigerian politics and are expected to play major roles in shaping future presidential and party structures.

The Progressive Governors Forum has also become a central platform for coordinating policy positions and political direction among APC-controlled states.

Party insiders say the endorsement of Hope Uzodinma reflects efforts to avoid unnecessary internal conflict at a time when opposition parties are intensifying coalition discussions.

Some political analysts believe the ruling party is trying to project stability and confidence amid increasing opposition mobilisation and public criticism over economic hardship.

The APC governors reportedly emphasised the need for unity, consultation, and strategic coordination to preserve the party’s electoral strength nationwide.

Supporters of the ruling party have welcomed the governors’ position, arguing that internal stability is essential for effective governance and political continuity.

Critics, however, insist that underlying rivalries and succession battles within the APC may still surface as the 2027 elections draw closer.

Observers note that political competition within ruling parties often intensifies during periods preceding presidential primaries and zoning negotiations.

Despite such concerns, APC leaders maintain that the party remains cohesive and capable of managing internal differences through dialogue and consultation.

Attention now shifts to future political alignments within the APC and how the party intends to manage growing expectations ahead of the 2027 electoral season.
