Troops attached to Operation Fansan Yamma have arrested a suspected high profile bandit during a stop-and-search operation in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, recovering an AK-47 magazine, mobile phones and other items from him.
The arrest was disclosed by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama on Sunday.
While citing sources, Makama said the arrest was made around 6:04pm on May 8 by personnel of the 2 Battalion stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Dogon Dawa.
The troops had mounted a snap checkpoint in the Damari area of Birnin Gwari when they stopped the suspect, who was travelling on a motorcycle.
The suspect was identified as Ibrahim Adamu, aged 32.
“During the search, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle magazine, three mobile phones, Indian hemp and other personal belongings from the suspect,” the source said.
Sources added that an initial review of materials found on the suspect’s phones uncovered several incriminating photographs allegedly showing him wearing military-style attire and posing with a PKT machine gun alongside other suspected bandits.
Military sources said the suspect and all recovered exhibits were taken to the battalion headquarters for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The authorities added that although the security situation in the area remained calm, it was still unpredictable, noting that surveillance and monitoring activities had been strengthened across the axis.
