The Rivers APC primary drew significant public attention against the backdrop of the prolonged political crisis in the state and the influence of allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, within the party structure.

The contest also generated speculation over the political future of Governor Siminalayi Fubara following reports of his withdrawal from the APC governorship race.

Chinda’s emergence now sets the stage for what is expected to be a closely watched governorship contest in Rivers ahead of the 2027 elections.
