FAAN Intensifies Ebola Screening at Nigerian Airports

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has strengthened health surveillance measures at international airports following recent Ebola outbreaks reported in parts of Central Africa.

In a statement issued by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, the agency said it is working closely with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, Port Health Services, and other health authorities to enhance monitoring and response efforts at the nation’s borders.

According to the agency, passengers arriving from affected regions are undergoing intensified screening procedures for symptoms linked to the Ebola virus. Any suspected case identified at the airports will be isolated immediately and subjected to further medical evaluation in accordance with established health protocols.

FAAN stated that emergency response systems across international airports have also been reinforced to ensure rapid action if necessary. The authority added that airport personnel are receiving additional training and sensitisation to improve early detection and effective handling of potential health threats.

Despite the heightened precautions, FAAN reassured the public that Nigeria has not recorded any confirmed Ebola case at this time.

The agency urged travellers to cooperate fully with health officials, comply with screening requirements, and promptly report any symptoms for immediate attention.

The renewed preventive measures come as several African nations intensify efforts to contain fresh Ebola outbreaks associated with the rare Bundibugyo strain, prompting increased regional and international health monitoring.
