ABUJA, NIGERIA – The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has extended the registration deadline for the 2026 National Common Entrance Examination into technical colleges across Nigeria and rescheduled the examination date to June 13.

The adjustment, according to the examination body, is aimed at giving more candidates additional time to complete their registration process and ensure wider participation in technical education pathways across the country.

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board said the extension reflects its commitment to improving access to technical and vocational education, especially for students seeking admission into technical colleges nationwide.

Originally, the registration exercise was expected to close earlier, but officials stated that the deadline has now been moved to May 31 to accommodate candidates who are still in the process of completing their applications.

New Examination Date Confirmed

Alongside the registration extension, NABTEB announced that the National Common Entrance Examination will now hold on June 13, 2026, instead of the previously scheduled date.

The board explained that the change is necessary to allow adequate preparation time for candidates and examination centres across the country.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the development, noting that it could improve participation levels and reduce last-minute registration challenges often experienced by candidates.

Boost For Technical Education

The examination is a key entry requirement for admission into federal and state technical colleges in Nigeria, where students are trained in vocational and technical skills aimed at improving employability and industrial development.

Experts say the extension could help strengthen Nigeria’s technical education system by encouraging more students to consider vocational pathways alongside traditional academic routes.

Stakeholders React To Adjustment

Education analysts have described the decision as timely, particularly at a time when Nigeria is seeking to expand skills development and reduce youth unemployment through technical training.

Looking Ahead

Candidates are advised to complete their registration before the new deadline and prepare adequately for the examination scheduled for June 13.

NABTEB reiterated its commitment to conducting a credible, transparent, and efficient examination process across all participating centres nationwide.
