ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced traffic diversion measures along the Abuja–Kaduna highway as part of efforts to manage expected congestion during the Sallah holiday period.
The agency advised motorists to exercise caution, comply with traffic instructions, and make use of designated alternative routes to ease movement along the busy corridor.
The Federal Road Safety Corps said the diversion plan is necessary to reduce gridlock, improve road safety, and ensure smooth travel for commuters during the festive season.
Anticipated Heavy Traffic During Sallah
According to the FRSC, increased travel activity is expected as residents move between Abuja, Kaduna, and surrounding states to celebrate the Sallah holidays with family and friends.
The agency noted that such seasonal movement often leads to heavy congestion, especially on major highways, if proper traffic management strategies are not implemented.
Alternative Routes Recommended
Motorists have been advised to follow approved alternative routes where necessary, while adhering strictly to road signs and instructions from traffic officers deployed along the highway.
FRSC officials stated that personnel have been strategically positioned at critical points to assist in traffic control, emergency response, and enforcement of road safety regulations.
Call For Discipline And Compliance
The Corps urged drivers to avoid dangerous driving behaviours such as speeding, wrongful overtaking, and overloading, which often contribute to road crashes during festive periods.
It also appealed to commercial transport operators to prioritize passenger safety and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on long-distance trips.
Safety Measures Intensified
The FRSC said additional patrol vehicles, ambulances, and rescue teams have been deployed along major routes to respond quickly to emergencies.
Officials emphasized that public cooperation is essential to achieving safer road conditions during the holiday season.
Looking Ahead
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to reducing road crashes and ensuring safe travel for all road users during Sallah and beyond, while warning that enforcement actions will be taken against violators of traffic rules.
