Police Arrest Bauchi Man For Circulating Fake Appointment Letters

BAUCHI, NIGERIA — Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Bauchi State have arrested a suspect, Saleem Alhassan, for allegedly circulating fake appointment letters and defrauding unsuspecting job seekers of millions of naira through employment scams.

The arrest followed multiple complaints from victims who reported receiving forged employment offer letters purportedly linked to government and public institutions.

Investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly used counterfeit documents to convince victims that they had secured jobs, before demanding various payments for processing, clearance, and documentation.

Police authorities said preliminary findings suggest that several individuals were misled into paying substantial sums of money in exchange for non-existent job placements.

The suspect was reportedly tracked and apprehended after intelligence gathering and coordinated surveillance operations by detectives in the state command.

Security sources confirmed that several incriminating materials, including forged appointment letters and related documents, were recovered during the arrest.

The Bauchi State Police Commissioner has warned members of the public to remain vigilant and avoid engaging in unofficial recruitment processes or paying money for job offers.

He reiterated that genuine government recruitment processes are transparent, publicly advertised, and do not require payment from applicants.

The Commissioner further advised citizens to verify employment opportunities through official channels to avoid falling victim to fraudsters.

Residents have been urged to report suspicious recruitment activities to security agencies for prompt investigation and action.

Economic analysts note that employment scams have become increasingly common in Nigeria due to high unemployment rates and desperation among job seekers.

They emphasize that fraudsters often exploit these conditions by impersonating government agencies or reputable organizations.

As investigations continue, authorities have pledged to intensify efforts to clamp down on employment-related fraud across Bauchi State and beyond.
