Social media activist VeryDarkMan has spoken out to address widespread reactions following his encounter with military personnel during the recent protest in Abuja.
Responding to circulating narratives, he dismissed claims suggesting he was protected by the military or that his actions undermined the protest.
“So some people are angry that we’ve not been tear-gassed. Also the narrative that I left the protest yesterday being protected by military…” he said.
He further clarified his decision to intervene in the protest chants, explaining why he discouraged participants from using political slogans.
“…and why I stopped everyone from chanting ‘Tinubu must go’ and rather sticking to ‘bandits must go, kidnappers must go,’” he added.
According to him, the move was deliberate, aimed at keeping the protest focused on insecurity and the urgent need to address violence and criminal activities affecting citizens.
His remarks have since generated mixed reactions online. While some supporters praised his approach as strategic and issue-focused, others argued that political accountability should remain central to the protest movement.
The development highlights ongoing divisions over messaging and leadership within the broader wave of demonstrations, as Nigerians continue to demand solutions to insecurity and governance challenges.
