The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Ogun State Branch, has flagged off its 2026 Annual Pharmacy Week with a free medical outreach aimed at improving access to healthcare services for residents of Lukosi Community in Abeokuta.
The outreach, held at the PSN Ogun State Secretariat, offered a range of free medical services including consultations, malaria and typhoid testing, screening for hepatitis and HIV/AIDS, as well as checks for blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Beneficiaries also received medication counselling and general health education.
Speaking with journalists, the Chairman of the PSN in Ogun State, Pharm. Oyesunlola Okunuga, said the initiative was designed to strengthen community healthcare delivery while giving back to society. He added that the programme was structured to accommodate over 100 residents during the outreach exercise.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Pharmacy Week Planning Committee, Dr. Obube Olumide, described the outreach as part of a broader strategy to take healthcare services closer to the people. He noted that this year’s edition also features family planning awareness campaigns and environmental sustainability initiatives.
The 2026 Pharmacy Week is themed “A New Era in Pharmacy: Performance-Driven Workforce Development for Health System Transformation in Ogun State,” reflecting the profession’s focus on capacity building and improved healthcare delivery.
The official opening ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17, at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Marquee in Abeokuta. The event is expected to bring together key stakeholders from government, academia, traditional institutions, and the wider health sector.
