Gunmen Abduct Wife, Son of APC LGA Chairman in Kebbi

BIRNIN KEBBI, Kebbi State — Gunmen have abducted the wife and son of Yusuf Sani Alhassan, chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State, police authorities have confirmed.

Bashir Usman, spokesperson of the Kebbi State Police Command, confirmed the incident to TheCable on Tuesday, stating that efforts were underway to rescue the victims and apprehend those responsible. According to the police spokesperson, the abductors have not yet made any contact with the family or authorities regarding a ransom demand.

The abduction occurred at the chairman’s residence in Yauri town, where the gunmen reportedly invaded the home and forcibly took the victims. The incident has heightened security concerns in the area, which has experienced sporadic attacks and kidnappings by criminal elements in recent months.

The Kebbi State Police Command has deployed operatives to the area and launched a search operation to track down the kidnappers and secure the safe release of the victims. Usman assured the public that the command is working tirelessly to rescue the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The incident has drawn condemnation from political leaders and residents, who have called on the state government and security agencies to intensify efforts to tackle insecurity in the area. Kebbi State has witnessed a rise in kidnapping and banditry in recent years, with criminal groups targeting prominent individuals, businessmen, and their families for ransom. The state government has implemented various security measures, including the establishment of a joint security task force, to address the growing threat.
