Ann Blyth, one of the enduring stars of Hollywood’s Golden Age, has passed away at the age of 98.
According to reports, the Academy Award-nominated actress died peacefully of natural causes on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 just weeks before what would have been her 99th birthday.
Born on August 16, 1927, in New York, Blyth began her journey in entertainment at an early age, performing on children’s radio programs when she was just six years old. By the age of 12, she had secured her first role on Broadway, showcasing a talent that would soon propel her into film.
She later signed with Universal Studios and made her film debut in the 1944 musical Chip Off the Old Block. However, it was her breakthrough role in the 1945 film Mildred Pierce that brought her widespread recognition. Starring alongside Joan Crawford, Blyth delivered a standout performance as Veda Pierce, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress at just 16 years old.
Over a career that spanned more than seven decades, Blyth appeared in 35 films, including Killer McCoy (1947), Brute Force (1947), and The Great Caruso (1951). She also made successful transitions into television and stage, with appearances in The Twilight Zone and touring productions such as The Sound of Music.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Blyth was known for her versatility as both an actress and singer, maintaining a lasting presence in the entertainment industry long after the Golden Age of Hollywood had passed.
She is survived by her five children, ten grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
