A lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State, has reportedly been arrested following allegations of attempting to engage in inappropriate relations with a female student in exchange for academic favors.
The incident, which has since gone viral on social media, reportedly took place inside a laboratory and drew widespread attention from students on campus. Videos circulating online show a chaotic scene as a crowd gathered during the unfolding situation.
According to accounts from students, the lecturer said to be from the biology department had allegedly been making repeated demands toward the student. In response, the student, with support from others, reportedly set up a plan to expose him.
It was gathered that the student went to meet the lecturer as arranged but raised an alarm when the situation allegedly became inappropriate. Individuals who had been alerted reportedly attempted to gain access to the laboratory, which was locked from the inside.
Footage from the scene shows the lecturer partially dressed while students forced the door open. In the confusion that followed, he reportedly escaped through a window before being apprehended.
The development has sparked strong reactions, with many calling for strict disciplinary measures and a thorough investigation into the allegations. The case has also reignited conversations around “sex-for-grades” issues in higher institutions and the need for stronger protections for students.
