OSOGBO, Nigeria — Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and the national leadership of the Accord Party have endorsed President Bola Tinubu as their preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, marking a significant political development ahead of the next electoral cycle.

The endorsement followed a high-level meeting held on Saturday night in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, where Governor Adeleke met with members of the Accord Party’s national leadership to deliberate on the party’s future, its political direction and preparations for forthcoming elections.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesperson for Adeleke’s re-election campaign, the meeting focused on a broad range of political and organisational issues affecting the party, including strategies aimed at strengthening its structure and positioning ahead of the 2027 polls.

The statement said discussions also centred on the evolving political landscape in Nigeria and the need for collaboration among political stakeholders to promote stability, democratic governance and national development.

Following the deliberations, the governor and the Accord Party leadership agreed to adopt President Tinubu as their preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election, describing the decision as one reached after careful consultations and consideration of the country’s political and economic realities.

The endorsement is expected to reinforce political cooperation between the parties in Osun State while adding momentum to Tinubu’s expected bid for a second term in office.

Although details of any broader political alliance were not immediately disclosed, the meeting underscored ongoing consultations among political leaders as parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the next general election.

The development comes as political activities across the country continue to intensify, with parties holding consultations, building alliances and reviewing strategies in preparation for campaigns expected to gather pace in the coming months.

Governor Adeleke has remained a key political figure in Osun State, while the Accord Party continues to maintain its presence in Nigeria’s multiparty political system despite its relatively smaller national footprint.

Political analysts say endorsements and alliance-building efforts are likely to become more frequent as political parties seek to consolidate support, strengthen regional influence and improve their electoral prospects before the 2027 polls.

The latest endorsement reflects the growing pace of political realignments taking shape across the country as stakeholders position themselves for what is expected to be another closely contested presidential election.
