MANCHESTER, England — Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic as the club evaluates attacking reinforcements ahead of the new Premier League season.
Vlahovic, 26, is currently a free agent after leaving Juventus at the end of his contract earlier this summer, making him an attractive option for clubs seeking an experienced forward without paying a transfer fee.
Reports suggest United’s interest in the former Juventus and Fiorentina striker depends largely on the future of Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee. The Netherlands international has been linked with a return to Serie A, with Juventus reportedly interested in signing him on an initial season-long loan with an option to make the move permanent.
Manchester United are believed to prefer a permanent transfer for Zirkzee. However, should the striker leave Old Trafford before the transfer window closes, the club is expected to move quickly to secure a replacement.
Vlahovic has emerged as one of the leading candidates due to his experience at the highest level and his availability on a free transfer. The Serbian scored 10 goals for Juventus last season and remains highly regarded despite an inconsistent spell with the Italian giants.
Before joining Juventus, Vlahovic was heavily linked with Arsenal, with the London club reportedly prepared to make a significant investment to secure his signature. The move ultimately failed to materialize, and he instead completed a transfer from Fiorentina to Juventus.
United view the striker as someone capable of adding a different dimension to their attack. His physical presence, finishing ability and experience in European football could provide valuable depth as the club prepares for a demanding domestic and continental campaign.
The club is also monitoring other attacking options, including Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins. While Watkins offers proven Premier League experience, Vlahovic’s free-agent status makes him a financially attractive alternative.
Zirkzee, who joined Manchester United from Bologna in a £36.5 million deal in 2024, has struggled to establish himself as the club’s first-choice striker. Reports indicate Juventus are eager to bring him back to Italy, although negotiations could prove complicated if the Italian club insists on a loan arrangement.
For now, Manchester United are keeping their options open as they assess the transfer market. If Zirkzee departs, Vlahovic could become one of the club’s leading targets as they seek to strengthen their attacking line before the new season begins.
