BENIN CITY, Nigeria — Diverse Autocare Centre has launched a road safety awareness campaign in Edo State, calling on motorists to embrace road courtesy, maintain their vehicles regularly and practise responsible driving to reduce accidents and improve safety on Nigerian roads.
The campaign, unveiled during a public awareness programme, seeks to educate drivers on the importance of patience, discipline and respect for other road users. The company said reckless driving, poor vehicle maintenance and disregard for traffic regulations remain major contributors to road crashes across the country.
Officials of Diverse Autocare Centre urged motorists to ensure that their vehicles undergo routine maintenance, including regular checks on brakes, tyres, lights, steering systems and engine performance. They stressed that well-maintained vehicles are less likely to develop faults that could lead to accidents.
The firm also advised drivers to obey speed limits, avoid dangerous overtaking, refrain from using mobile phones while driving and always wear seat belts. It noted that responsible driving habits not only protect motorists but also safeguard passengers, pedestrians and other road users.
According to the company, road courtesy is an essential aspect of safe driving. Motorists were encouraged to be patient in traffic, respect the right of way of other drivers and avoid aggressive behaviour that could escalate into road rage or collisions.
The campaign further highlighted the importance of defensive driving, urging motorists to remain alert at all times, anticipate potential hazards and exercise caution, particularly during adverse weather conditions or on poorly maintained roads.
Diverse Autocare Centre reaffirmed its commitment to promoting road safety through continuous public education and advocacy. The company said partnerships between private organisations, government agencies and road users are necessary to reduce accidents and improve transportation safety nationwide.
Road safety advocates welcomed the initiative, describing public awareness campaigns as important tools for changing driving behaviour and encouraging compliance with traffic regulations. They noted that regular vehicle maintenance and responsible driving remain key factors in preventing avoidable crashes.
The firm called on all motorists to make safety a daily priority by maintaining their vehicles properly, observing traffic rules and treating fellow road users with courtesy and respect, adding that collective responsibility is essential for creating safer roads across Nigeria.
