Tope Osoba’s Death Takes Fresh Turn as Family Demands Police Probe After Fiancé Says Actress Died at Police Station

The death of Nollywood actress Temitope Osoba has taken a dramatic and troubling turn after her fiancé, Prophet Itunu Onadeko, claimed that the actress died at a police station in Ikorodu, Lagos State, prompting fresh calls for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her final hours.

Osoba, who was 40, died in August 2026 after previously making public her battle with breast cancer and her subsequent recovery. Her death initially generated speculation that complications from the illness may have been responsible, but her fiancé has now rejected that account and offered a different version of what happened shortly before she passed away. His revelation has opened a new and deeply sensitive chapter in a case already surrounded by conflicting claims, emotional family accounts and questions over whether the full circumstances of her death have been established.

According to Onadeko, he received a telephone call around midnight from an unidentified person who informed him that Osoba had died at a police station in Ikorodu. He said the caller did not provide him with sufficient details about the particular station, leaving him unsure of the exact location where the actress allegedly died. He subsequently went to a nearby police station to report himself.

The claim is significant because it immediately raises questions about why the actress was at a police station in the first place, who took her there, whether she was there in connection with a complaint or dispute, who was present when her condition deteriorated and what happened between the time she arrived and the moment she reportedly died.

At the time of the latest reports, these questions had not been conclusively answered by an official police account. The claims made by the fiancé remained unverified, while the family and other individuals connected to the actress have provided accounts that differ in important respects.

The controversy has also been intensified by allegations circulating on social media about the actress’s final days. Some of the claims have suggested that Osoba was mistreated, poisoned or subjected to degrading treatment, while other reports have questioned the handling of funds reportedly raised during her battle with cancer.

Onadeko has strongly denied those allegations.

In his account, the prophet rejected claims that Osoba was poisoned or physically mistreated and disputed suggestions that money raised for her cancer treatment had been diverted or used for other purposes. He acknowledged her previous battle with breast cancer and the surgery she underwent but maintained that, in his understanding, cancer was not the cause of her death.

The conflicting narratives have made it increasingly difficult for the public to determine what actually happened.

For DDM News, the most important development is not the competing speculation circulating online but the growing demand for a formal investigation capable of establishing the facts through evidence. A police inquiry, medical records, witness statements and, where appropriate, an autopsy could provide answers that cannot be obtained from social media posts or individual accounts.

The call for such an investigation has now been amplified by Nollywood actor and human-rights activist Yomi Fabiyi. Fabiyi disclosed that his organisation, Break The Silence Foundation, had petitioned the Lagos State Commissioner of Police and commenced what he described as a legitimate investigation into Osoba’s death. He said the actress had allegedly reported a matter to the police shortly before she died, a claim that, if independently established, could become a crucial part of understanding her final movements.

Fabiyi has also called for an autopsy before the actress is buried, arguing that an independent post-mortem examination could help determine the actual cause of death and clarify the circumstances surrounding it. He has urged that the planned burial be put on hold until the relevant authorities have had an opportunity to investigate.

His intervention has added urgency to the situation because Osoba’s family had already announced burial arrangements for Thursday, August 13, 2026, in Iperu Remo, Ogun State. The funeral is expected to include a service at Saint James Anglican Church before her interment at Iperu Remo Cemetery.

Fabiyi has warned that proceeding with the burial before an investigation could make it more difficult to establish certain facts later. He argued that if the body were buried before an autopsy and investigators subsequently determined that further examination was necessary, an exhumation could become unavoidable.

The human-rights activist’s demand has therefore transformed what began as a family tragedy into a wider call for due process.

The family itself has also reportedly expressed concern about the circumstances surrounding Osoba’s final moments. According to a recent account attributed to her maternal aunt, Pejuola Ogunesan, the actress had spoken repeatedly about dying on the day she eventually passed away. The family has provided its own account of how her condition deteriorated and how she was eventually taken for medical attention. However, those details have not independently resolved the central questions surrounding the police-station claim.

That difference between the accounts is particularly important.

On one side is the fiancé’s claim that he was informed that Osoba died at a police station in Ikorodu. On another is the family’s account of her final hours, including reports that she became seriously ill and was taken for medical attention. Then there is Fabiyi’s assertion that the actress had allegedly reported a matter to the police shortly before her death.

Each account raises questions that can only properly be settled through an investigation.

The actress’s earlier health history has also become a central part of the controversy. Osoba publicly documented her battle with breast cancer in 2024 and later announced her recovery and return to acting in August 2025. Her openness about the illness made many people naturally assume that cancer-related complications could have contributed to her death. However, the fiancé has rejected that explanation, making it particularly important that the cause of death be established through medical evidence rather than assumption.

The situation illustrates the dangers of allowing an unclear death to become dominated by unverified claims. Allegations involving poisoning, mistreatment, financial misconduct, possible criminality or the circumstances of a person’s death carry serious consequences and should not be treated as facts until competent authorities establish them.

At the same time, the absence of an official explanation can create a vacuum that encourages speculation.

That is why the demand for transparency has gained momentum.

If Osoba was indeed at a police station shortly before her death, investigators would need to establish the precise station involved, the reason for her presence, the names of officers and civilians who interacted with her, the time she arrived, the state of her health on arrival, whether she was under arrest or simply seeking police assistance, and what medical intervention was provided when her condition deteriorated.

Investigators would also need to establish whether any complaint was filed by or on behalf of Osoba, whether there were witnesses to the events, and whether documentary or electronic evidence exists that could help reconstruct her movements during her final hours.

DDM News understands that the growing calls for an investigation are being driven largely by the need to separate facts from allegations. The family’s grief, the fiancé’s account and the public’s concern all deserve to be treated seriously, but none should replace a professional investigation.

There is also a broader issue at stake for Nollywood. The death of a public figure can quickly become a source of intense public speculation, especially when the circumstances are unclear. In such cases, the most responsible approach is to allow evidence-based investigations to determine what happened while protecting the dignity of the deceased and the rights of everyone involved.

For Osoba’s family, however, the issue is deeply personal. Beyond the headlines and social media debates is a woman whose death has left relatives, colleagues and friends seeking answers. They are entitled to know what happened during her final hours, particularly if there are credible questions about her interaction with law enforcement shortly before her death.

For the moment, the most responsible conclusion is that the circumstances surrounding Temitope Osoba’s death remain unresolved.

Her fiancé has claimed that she died at a police station in Ikorodu and has denied allegations of mistreatment and other wrongdoing. Human-rights activist Yomi Fabiyi has called for a police investigation and an autopsy, while reports of differing family accounts have added further complexity to the case. None of the competing explanations has been conclusively established in the public domain.

As the proposed August 13 burial approaches, pressure for clarity is likely to increase. Whether the burial proceeds as scheduled or is delayed for further investigation, the central demand remains the same: establish the facts surrounding Temitope Osoba’s final hours and determine, through credible evidence, how and why the actress died.

Until that happens, her death will remain surrounded by questions that neither rumours nor conflicting personal accounts can adequately answer.
